Another busy month but I'm not complaining!
It's been rewarding to see my students progressing. In particular, one Lady has put in loads of practise in her own time and really amazed me last week!
I've recorded a few more tracks which has been fun.
Also, I have to share this with everybody, but whilst rummaging around in the loft I came across the original artwork that my Father did for my bass drums. When I was around 12 years old I loved the artwork that adorned Tommy Lee's bass drums and kept going on about getting something on mine. My Father and I sketched a few ideas before he came up with this really cool two headed snake design. There were a few adhesion problems with paint on drum heads so we opted to spray onto paper and stick them on which did work really well with no real impact on resonance.
The artwork was all done by hand using an airbrush and traditional brush.
As I had two bass drums he did it twice! The only difference being that one had a 'C' on the sword handle, the other an 'H'. They looked great on my black Tama kit and were stuck on for a good number of years.
These days you can pretty much get anything printed onto a bass drum head over the web. I'm lucky enough to have had a Father gifted and patient enough to do it for me before things became so readily available.
My photos really don't do justice to his skill.
